Why Oil & Gas Leaders Use Coaching & Why It Works

For those who are executives in the oil and gas industry and work for progressive organizations, you may have had the luxury of being assigned an executive coach. For those who have never been exposed to executive coaching, the process, or the coaches who guide our leaders through an executive coaching process, you might be curious to know why you might need someone like an executive coach.

First, some background, executive coaching came out of the closet in most industries, about 25 years ago. Jack Welch, the famous GE CEO had/has a coach. Many other famous senior executives in many industries hired coaches because it became the “in thing to do,” following Mr. Welch’s great success. Mr. Welch gave great credit to his coach and shared great success with his coach while at GE.

So, what is executive coaching….simply put, it is the most personal and effective way to develop leaders to be the type of leaders any organization wants them to be. Executive coaching is all about growing the leadership characteristics and behaviors that organizations say they want in their leaders, but somehow fall short in teaching their leaders the skills necessary to become what the organization both wants and needs.
